Dark ‘N Stormy

Dark ‘N Stormy

Ingredients

  • 60ml Gosling’s Black Seal rum
  • 120 - 150ml ginger beer
No. of Servings:
1

Garnish

Lime wedge

Instructions

  1. Pour the ginger beer into a highball glass with ice.

  2. Gently pour the rum and stack it on top of the ginger beer.

  3. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Hints

  1. When you serve a cocktail with a lime wedge, it implies that the drinker has an option to squeeze the juice into the cocktail, if so desired. If you or your guests prefer the lime juice, you could, alternatively, add 15ml of it and garnish with a lime wheel instead.

  2. Bars in Bermuda sometimes add a couple of dashes of Angostura bitters, furthering the spicy notes of this drink.

  3. Since this is, for the most part, a two ingredient cocktail, this could be a great opportunity to push its quality even further by making your own ginger beer.

Trivia

  1. The Dark ‘N Stormy is one of a handful of cocktails which has been trademarked, which is why Gosling’s Black Seal rum is specifically called for in the recipe.

  2. Originally, it was made with Barritt’s Ginger Beer. The two companies have since had a falling out and the recipe no longer calls for a specific brand of ginger beer.

  3. The Dark ‘N Stormy is the unofficial drink of Bermuda, where it was purportedly created shortly after World War I.
