Orgeat

Ingredients

  • 1 part unsweetened almond milk
  • 1.5 parts white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon orange blossom water for every 150ml of almond milk
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract for every 150ml of almond milk (optional)
  • 15ml brandy for every 150ml of almond milk (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add both ingredients into a saucepan and place on low-medium heat.

  2. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

  3. Avoid bringing to a boil to prevent throwing off the ratios.

  4. Pour into a sterilized bottle.

Keep refrigerated, lasts 4-6 weeks.

Hints

  1. Consider this orgeat recipe as a template to make syrups with any nut you want. You can use pecans, macadamia nuts, etc.

  2. Regardless of what you choose, if you're making the milk from scratch, make sure you roast the nuts slightly so that they release more of their aroma and flavor.

  3. You can definitely use store-bought almond milk, but make sure it's unsweetened!

  4. Great video by Truffles on the Rocks about different types of orgeat syrup. His orgeat is 1:1, whereas ours is 3:2 (sugar to almond milk). Different ratios might work best for different drinks!
