Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients except for the club soda into a shaker with ice.

  2. Flash blend.

  3. Line a brandy snifter with the sidewinder’s fang peel, with the head handing over the rim of the glass.

  4. Fill with crushed ice.

  5. Add the club soda.

  6. Strain the drink into the snifter.

  7. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Hints

  1. In order to make the garnish, take a large orange and with a Y-peeler begin creating a long, continuous strip. Once you reach your desired length, cut a triangular shape for the head and poke two holes for the eyes.

  2. Optionally, you can cut the body to make it thinner than the head and to end with a narrow tail. With enough practice, you can peel the narrower body directly from the orange without having to cut it with your knife afterwards.

  3. A flash blend means to blend the drink for 3 or 4 seconds in a stand-up mixer (also known as a flash blender). If you don’t have a flash blender, you can try using an immersion (stick) blender as long as the ice you add to the tin is already crushed, otherwise you’ll ruin the blades.

  4. The difference between using a flash blender instead of a regular blender is that the latter breaks apart the ice, which can lead to either an overly-diluted drink, or a thick drink (depending on the amount of ice you used).
