Hints

  1. The original recipe uses peach schnapps, but peach liqueur (crème de pêche) will work as well.

  2. This drink is very, very sweet. Feel free to add lime or lemon juice to balance it to your taste.

  3. Some recipes add a small amount (15ml) of crème de cassis, Chambord or raspberry liqueur, however, make sure you balance this with some acid.

Trivia

  1. The main story surrounding the creation of the drink is that it was made for a competition in Florida to see who could sell the most peach schnapps. Purportedly, Tez Pizio created the cocktail in 1987 and won the competition.

  2. Pizio says that he named the cocktail the way he did because he believed there were 2 reasons tourists visit Florida for Spring Break: sex and the beach.

  3. One problem with this story is that the recipe already appears in American Bartenders School Guide to Drinks (1982).

  4. The Sex on the Beach is likely to be a combination of a Fuzzy Navel (peach schnapps and orange juice) with a Cape Codder (vodka and cranberry juice).
