Ingredients

  • 45ml gin(suggested: Plymouth)
  • 45ml dry-vermouth
  • 1.5ml Curaçao
  • 2 dashes orange bitters

Garnish

Orange or lemon twist

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.

  2. Stir until chilled.

  3. Strain into a coupe.

  4. Twist a citrus peel over the drink to express the essential oils and garnish with the twist.

Hints

  1. Plymouth gin is generally a little less juniper forward, and slightly more citrus forward than regular London Dry gin.

  1. Along with the Martinez, the Marguerite is considered one of the predecessors of the Martini.

  2. The earliest printed version of the Marguerite comes from the New and Improved Bartenders’ Manual (1900) by Harry Johnson.

  3. The original recipe called for 2 or 3 dashes of anisette, but this ingredient was omitted in recipes following the first one.
