Irish Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 45ml Irish whiskey
  • 1 dash Curaçao
  • 1 dash maraschino liqueur
  • 1 dash absinthe
  • 1 dash Boker's bitters

Olive and lemon twist

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice.

  2. Stir until chilled.

  3. Strain into a rocks glass.

  4. Twist a lemon peel over the drink to express the essential oils and garnish with the twist and an olive.

Hints

  1. Boker’s bitters are one of the oldest types of bitters we know about. While the company no longer exists, the Bitter Truth has come up with a replica version that aims to come as close as possible to it.

  2. If you can’t get a hold of Boker’s bitters, consider using a mixture of Angostura, Cacao and Cardamom bitters.

  3. The original version of this recipe called for 2 or 3 dashes of absinthe and 2 dashes of Boker’s bitters. Feel free to adjust based on your taste.

  1. Featured in Harry Johnson’s 1900 Bartender’s Manual.

  2. It is part of the family of “Improved” Cocktails which became popular in the second half of the 19th Century. 

  3. Later publications of this recipe use an orange twist instead of lemon.
