Hints

  1. You can make a Spritz with any type of Amari: Campari, Montenegro, Cynar, etc. Each brings its delicious flavors. Aperol is one of the most approachable Amari, so it makes sense that it’s the most popular, but don’t be afraid to play around with the others.

Trivia

  1. The origins of the spritz go back to the late 1800's. The drink began in the Veneto region of Italy, which at that time was dominated by the Habsburg Empire.

  2. The word spritz is German for splash, and it was used because the Austrians would add a splash of water to Italian wine, which they considered to be too rich.

  3. Cynar is a relatively new type of amaro, created in 1952 and named after its predominant ingredient: The artichoke (Cynara Scolymus).

  4. Cynar became popular during the early 1960s after appearing in a series of commercials in Italian Television. In one of these commercials, Ernesto Calindri shows how confortable he is in the face of a "frenetic daily life" because he enjoys this aperitivo.
