Trivia

  1. Calimocho (also known as Kalimotxo) was created some time in the 1920s in the Basque Country in Spain. It was made with a cola-based soft drink, as Coca-Cola wasn’t readily available during this time.

  2. Calimocho was a popular drink among the high class in Bilbao, but back then it was called a Rioja Libre (a nod to the Cuba Libre).

  3. The most popular story surrounding its name comes from the Festivities of San Nicolás de Algorta in 1973. The name derives from joining the nicknames of two members of the “Antzarrak” group, who were part of the proceedings.
